RJ Barrett, born Rowan Alexander Barrett Jr., is a Canadian professional basketball player who was born on June 14, 2000, in Toronto, Ontario. His career started when he was in high school when he joined St. Marcellinus Secondary School team in 2014 in Mississauga, Ontario. He transferred to Montverde Academy, located in Florida, United States, in 2015, and joined his new school’s team. After he graduated, he was tagged as the top Canadian prospect in the 2019 class, which led to him receiving many offers for scholarships from major universities like Texas, Indiana, Oregon, and others. He decided to accept Duke University’s scholarship and joined the team. In 2019, he declared for the 2019 NBA draft and was drafted by the New York Knicks. Internationally, he represented Canada in the under-16 team at the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, in which the team won silver. He was also part of the under-17 team that participated at the 2016 FIBA U17 World Cup, and in the team that participated at the 2017 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup. In 2018, he joined Canada’s senior men national team.
