Roderick Hampton Jr. (born February 7, 2001 in Dallas, Texas), most popularly known as RJ Hampton is a USA professional basketball player. He plays for the USA national teams.
RJ Hampton started playing basketball at the age of 3. In his high school in Little Elm, R.J. played two varsity seasons. His first season as a freshman (2016-2017) saw him start in all 34 games. He averaged 24.8 ppg., 8.0 rpg., 4.9 apg., 3.2 spg. and 2.3 bpg. and helped his team to a 29-5 record and a District 14-15A championship.
He also competed in his second year and helped his team to a 28-8 record. R.J proceeded to join America’s U16 Men’s team. In 2016 and 2017, he participated in the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team October Minicamp. As a member of the 2017 USA Men’s U16 National Team, R.J. Hampton helped the USA to a 5-0 record and a gold medal at the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship.
In the 2018 USA U17 World Cup Team however, he only played in the final two games after being side-lined by injury during an. exhibition play
He’s played with the New Zealand Breakers in the Australian NBL. He made his debut Sep. 20, 2019 in a win over Melbourne, posting 11 points, four assists, three rebounds and one steal in 21 minutes.
