Robert Pires is a former professional soccer player born on 29th October 1973 in Reims, France. He started his career with Reims and Metz. He made his senior debut with Metz, making 163 appearances and scoring 43 goals for the club. In 2000, Pires joined the English football club Arsenal and made his debut as a substitute against Sunderland on 19th August 2000. He spent seven years at Arsenal, making 186 appearances and scoring 62 goals. In May 2006, he joined Villarreal in a deal that would keep him at the Spanish club for two years.
He spent a further two years at the club, leaving in 2010 to join the English club Aston Villa. After one season with the club, he was released in May 2011. He announced a comeback in July 2014 during the official launch of the Indian Super League. In September 2014, he joined India’s FC Goa. On the International front, Pires made 12 appearances for the France U21 and 79 appearances for the senior side.
