Roland Emmerich Bio

Roland Emmerich is a German film director, screenwriter, and producer born in Stuttgart, Baden-Wurttemberg, West Germany on November 10, 1955. He is best known for his disaster films. His films have made over $3 billion worldwide and $1 billion in the United States, making him one of the highest-grossing directors of all time. Emmerich attended the University of Television and Film Munich to become a production designer, but ended up enrolling in the school’s film director program. For his final thesis he wrote and directed the full-length film The Noah’s Ark Principle. He co-founded the film production company Centropolis Film Productions with his sister in 1985. That same year he made his professional directorial debut with the film Joey. He has since been a writer, producer, and/or director on the films Hollywood-Monster, Moon 44, Eye of the Storm, Universal Soldier, Godzilla, The Thirteenth Floor, The Patriot, Trade, 2012, 10,000 BC, The Day After Tomorrow, Anonymous, White House Down, Stonewall, Midway, Independence Day: Resurgence, Hell, Trade, Eight Legged Freaks and others. He has also been part of the television shows Alto Sax, The Visitor, Godzilla: The Series, and Dark Horse. Throughout his career he has been nominated for a number of awards and has won a Saturn Award, a People’s Choice Award, a Kids’ Choice Award, and more.
