Russell Crowe was born on April 7, 1964 in Strathmore Park, New Zealand. Crowe’s first bit of acting as a single line at the age of five in the television series Spyforce. At 16, Crowe pursued acting full time, paying the bills by working as a musician. His first professional role was in a New Zealand production of The Rocky Horror Show from 1986 to 1988. After appearances in several television shows, he earned an Australian Film Institute award for Best Actor for his role in Romper Stomper (1992), having previously received the Best Supporting Actor role for Proof (1991).
He began starring in American films in 1993, starting with Virtuosity and The Quick and the Dead (1995). He drew international acclaim and three Best Actor nominations for his work in The Insider (1999), Gladiator (2000) and A Beautiful Mind (2001). His work in A Beautiful Mind earned him the best actor BAFTA award, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
He joined the cast of Robin Hood as the titular character in 2010 and also starred in The Next Three Days. In 2012, he played Inspector Javert in the movie adaptation of Les Misérables.
