Russell Morris, born Russell Norman Morris on July 31st, 1948 in Australia is a singer and songwriter in the rock genre. He began his musical career in 1966 with the formation of the group Somebody’s Image. The group signed with the label EMI Records. Their single “Hide and Seek” peaked at number 32 on the Australian Singles Chart.
In 1969 he debuted as a solo artist with the release of the single “The Real Thing.” The single reached number 1 in Australia, Chicago, Houston, and New York. It was the biggest single in Australia of 1969. IN 1970 his single “Mr. America” reached the Australian Top 10 and garnered him a TV Week’s Music Award for Composer of the Year.
In 1971 Russell released the album Bloodstone. The album peaked at number 20 on the Australian Albums Chart. In 1973 he released a hits compilation called Wings of an Eagle and Other Great Hits. In 1973 he released the album called Russell Morris. He followed up with the album Turn It On. Russell released 10 more albums up to 2015 with his latest effort being entitled Red Dirt-Red Heart.
