Ry Cooder is an American musician, songwriter, film score composer, and record producer born in Los Angeles, California on March 15, 1947. He is best known for his slide guitar work and for his interest in roots music. He is one of the founding members of the American/British rock band Little Village. They were formed in 1991 and released one studio album self-titled Little Village before disbanding in 1992. As a solo artist Cooder released his debut solo album in 1970 self-titled Ry Cooder and has since released the albums Into the Purple Valley, Boomer’s Story, Paradise and Lunch, Show Time, Jazz, Bop till You Drop, Borderline, The Slide Area, Get Rhythm, My Name Is Buddy, Election Special, The Prodigal Son, Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down and more. He has also released a number of compilation and collaboration albums. Cooder has played with the bands and musicians John Lee Hooker, Captain Beefheart, The Rolling Stones, Randy Newman, The Chieftains, The Doobie Brothers, Neil Young, David Lindley, Van Morrison and others. In 1997 he produced an album for Buena Vista Social Club that became internationally successful. Cooder has been awarded 6 Grammy Awards, a Spirit Award, a BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Lifetime Achievement Award and more.
