Sam Champion Bio

Samuel James Champion, popularly known as Sam Champion was born on August 13, 1961 in Paducah, Kentucky. He is most renowned as a weather anchor for ABC's Good Morning America and weather editor for ABC News.

Champion holds a B.A. in broadcast journalism from Eastern Kentucky University. He started his career in broadcast news as an intern at WKYT in Lexington while still attending Eastern Kentucky University. Before joining ABC News in September 2006, Champion spent 18 years at WABC-TV in New York where he was the most-watched weatherman in the tri-state area.

In 2002, he co-hosted the New York City Project's "Courage Awards". On April 7, 2012, Champion debuted as a host on Sea Rescue, an educational and informational television program that focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of animals back into the wild.

Champion left Good Morning America in December 2013, and later moved to The Weather Channel hosting AMHQ from March 2014 until October 2015. He has been a part of several charitable organizations in New York City including the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, March of Dimes, and "Stopping AIDS Together". The New York City-based indie rock band Sam Champion is named after him.
