Sam Raimi is an American filmmaker, actor, and producer born in Royal Oak, Michigan on October 23, 1959. He is best known for creating the horror series Evil Dead and for directing the Spider-Man trilogy, the film Oz the Great and Powerful, and the film Darkman. He became interested in making movies at a young age and would make Super 8 movies with his friend Bruce Campbell. While in college he helped make the film Within the Woods, and his feature film It’s Murder!. Raimi started the production company Renaissance Pictures in 1979. In 1981 he produced the film The Evil Dead with help from investors, family, and friends. The film successfully launched his career. Rami has since been part of the films Crimewave, Evil Dead II, Darkman, Army of Darkness, The Quick and the Dead, A Simple Plan, For Love of Game, The Gift, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, Drag Me to Hell, Oz the Great and Powerful and more. He has also produced the television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, American Gothic, 13: Fear Is Real, young Hercules, Jack of All Trades, Legend of the Seeker, Spartacus: Blood and Sand and others. Raimi has had several acting roles in the films and television shows he has produced and directed. Throughout his career he has been nominated for a number of awards and has won three Sitges Awards, a Saturn Award, an Empire Award and more.
