Sammy Kershaw is an American country music artist born in Kaplan, Louisiana on February 24, 1958. At 12 years old Kershaw was playing at honky-tonks and beer joints. In his teens, he opened for the artists George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Ray Price. He was signed by Mercury Records and released his debut studio album in 1991 titled Don’t Go Near the Water. Kershaw continued to release the albums Business is Pleasure, Haunted Heart, Feelin’ Good Train, Christmas Time’s A-Comin’, Politics, Religion and Her, Labor of Love, Maybe Not Tonight, I Finally Found Someone, I Want My Money Back, Honky Tonk Boots, Better Than I Used to Be, A Sammy Klaus Christmas, All in the Same Boat, Do You Know Me: A Tribute to George Jones, I Won’t Back Down, The Blues Got to Me, and Swamp Poppin. He has released 17 studio albums and 6 compilation albums. Three of his albums have been certified platinum and three have been certified gold by the RIAA. Over 25 of his songs have charted in the top 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
