Nuufolau Joel Seanoa, popularly known as Samoa Joe, is a professional wrestler born on March 17, 1979, in Orange County, California, United States. He began his wrestling career in 1999. He made his wrestling debut in December 1999 in a match against "Uncle" Jess Hansen just three months after he began professional training.
Since that match, Samoa Joe has competed in various independent promotions including Ring of Honor, TNA, AEW, and WWE. During this time, he won the PWG World Championship and the ROH World Championship, the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, and the TNA X Division Championship. He was also a member of Aces & Eights.
In 2015, Samoa Joe signed with WWE and began performing in NXT. In NXT, Samoa Joe won the NXT Championship twice. He was also a Tag Team Champion with Finn Balor. He is nicknamed "The Samoan Submission Machine" because of his signature submission move the Coquina Clutch. In 2017, Samoa Joe was called up to the main roster of the WWE.
