Terence Trent Howard, known professionally as Sananda Maitreya and previously as Terence Trent D'Arby, is an American singer and songwriter. He has gained a reputation for his pop, rock, and soul music, which is often characterized by his distinctive vocal range and innovative use of different musical genres. He was born in Manhattan, New York, United States, on March 15, 1962.
Howard's career began in the 1980s when he signed with CBS Records and released his debut album, Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby, in 1987. The album was a commercial and critical success, reaching number one in the UK and earning him a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for his hit single Wishing Well in 1989.
His discography includes the hit singles Dance Little Sister, Who’s Loving You, Reflecting Light, Holding On To You, and the albums Neither Fish nor Flesh, Wildcard, and The Rise of the Zugebrian Time Lords.
