Scott Joseph Kelly is an American retired astronaut, engineer, naval aviator, and author with a distinguished career in space exploration. He was born in Orange, New Jersey, United States, on February 21, 1964.
Kelly has accumulated an impressive 20 years of service with NASA and completed four space flights, including a record-breaking year-long mission on the International Space Station (ISS). He is best known for commanding Expeditions 26, 45, and 46 on the ISS and his involvement in numerous spacewalks and scientific experiments.
Throughout his career, Kelly has received numerous awards, including two NASA Distinguished Service Medals, the Navy Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Legion of Merit. He retired from NASA in 2019 to pursue other interests, but his contributions to space exploration and scientific research will be remembered for years to come.
Kelly is also an accomplished author, having published his memoir Endurance: A Year in Space, A Lifetime of Discovery which chronicles his year-long mission on the ISS and his experiences in space.
