Sergio Rodriguez Gomez was born on June 12, 1986 in Canary Islands, Spain. Sergio began his career in basketball in 2003 when he joined the Estudiantes of the Spanish League. While playing for the Estudiantes, he won the ACB Rising Star Award in 2004-05. After spending a few seasons with the team, he was chosen as the 27th overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns. Later that day during the draft, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers because of cash considerations.
Sergio played with the Portland Trail Blazers until 2009 when he was traded to the Sacramento Kings. The following year Sergio was traded to the New York Knicks where he played one season. Sergio then signed a contract with Real Madrid and stayed on the team until 2016. He then played two seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers until he signed a contract with CSKA Moscow in 2017.
