Shame is a South London-based post-punk quintet composed of Charlie Steen (vocals), Sean Coyle-Smith (guitar), Eddie Green (guitar), Josh Finerty (bass), and Charlie Forbes (drums). They are brand new on the scene as of this writing, releasing one debut album, “Songs of Praise” (2018) on the Dead Oceans label, whose roster also includes artists such as Slowdive, Akron/Family, and The Donkeys. Their sound is very much a throwback to classic 1980s UK, with some modern innovations.
Shame’s debut has attracted considerable attention. Billboard magazine called them “England’s most exciting new band,” The Guardian newspaper called them “Britain’s most exciting new band,” and they have also attracted praise from music journalism vanguards such as NME, Paste, and Clash. Their first album has made #1 on the UK Vinyl chart and #32 on the UK Albums chart overall.
