Pakistani-Canadian journalist, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was born on 12th November 1978. She holds a master’s degree in communication and international policy studies from the prestigious Stanford University. Two of her films made at the university also won awards. In 2002, she returned to Pakistan and launched her career as a filmmaker. She was associated with the series, ‘Frontline World’ by PBS TV and produced several broadcast reports for the channel. She has worked on notable films like ‘Children of the Taliban’, ‘The Lost Generation, Afghanistan Unveiled’, ‘3 Bahadur’ ‘A Girl In The River: Price of Forgiveness’, and the Academy Award winner, ‘Saving Face’. Her ability to contribute to the visual splendor of these films have earned her several awards like The Academy Award and The Emmy Award for Best Short Subject Documentary and The Best Broadcast Journalist of the Year Award at the 2007 One World Media Awards. She has won six Emmys in total and is also the first Pakistani to ever win an Academy Award. She is also the first non-American to bag the Livingstone Award for Young Journalist. She is the recipient of Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the second highest civilian award in Pakistan. In 2012, she was also listed among Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People.
