Skid Row Bio
Skid Row is a long-standing glam metal band named after the slang term for a poverty-stricken ghetto, as well as the actual Skid Row district in downtown Los Angeles, California. They came late in the hair metal game, starting with Dave “The Snake” Sabo (guitarist, formerly of the band Bon Jovi) and Rachel Bolan (bassist), adding Scott Hill (guitar), and Rob Affuso (drums). Last to the line-up was vocalist Sebastian Bach, whose titanium vocal chords propelled the group to its gold-selling 1989 single “18 and Life,” #4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Skid Row continued to chart sporadically through the middle 1990s, a tough time for metal bands in the great grunge apocalypse. Skid Row survived partly by reinventing their sound as a more thrash metal style. The band broke up anyway, and after a long break reformed in 2000 with new lead singer Johnny Solinger, while touring as the opening act for KISS’s farewell tour – a more humiliating defeat for the last great hair metal band could not possibly be imagined.
