Small Black is an American alternative indie rock band that was formed in 2007 in Long Island, New York. Josh Kolenik was the founder of the band. An old friend of his came up with the name and it stuck with him. He then started to collaborate with Ryan Heyner, a well-known musician from the area, who was formerly part of the hardcore band Silent Majority. In 2009 they completed the band when bassist Juan Pieczanski and Jeff Curtin joined. They created their own label, named CassClub, and released their first album in October 2009, which was a self-titled EP and the single “Despicable Dogs”. In 2010 they signed for Jagjaguwar Records and released a split-single with the band Washed Out, with whom they toured. In October of that year, they published their first album named “New Chain”. They toured around the US during most of 2012 and a year later they released their second album “Limits of Desire”, which was very well received by the audience. “Best of Blues” came out in 2015 and then decided to take a break. They came back in 2021 with “Cheap Dreams” after they signed for 100% Electronica label.
