Sophie Okonedo is a British theater, television and movie actress. She was born on the 11th of August, 1968, in London, England. She studied theater at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She made her film debut in the film “Young Soul Rebels” in 1991, playing alongside Valentine Nonyela. In 1995, she starred in the prison drama series “The Governor”. In the same year, she made her Hollywood debut, playing opposite Jim Carrey in the comedy film “Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls”. She holds credits in many series such as “Staying Alive” and “In Defence”. In 2004, she got her breakthrough role in the acclaimed historical movie “Hotel Rwanda”. Her performance earned her a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, as well as the Black Reel Award for Best Actress. In 2005 she acted alongside Charlize Theron in the sci-fi action movie “Aeon Flux”. In 2008 she landed a role in the multi award winning movie “The Secret Life of the Bees” for which she earned a nomination at the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. She portrayed Lady Halton in 2019 “Hellboy” and she was cast in the Kenneth Branagh movie “Death on the Nile” in 2020.
