Squirrel Nut Zippers Bio

Squirrel Nut Zippers is a jazz band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States. The band was formed in 1993 and consists of vocalist and guitarist “Jimbo” Mathus, vocalist and guitarist Tom Maxwell, vocalist and banjo Katharine Whalen, drummer Christ Phillips, bass guitarist Don Raleigh and Ken Mosher. The band became popular after the release of their second album, “Hot,” which went platinum and featured the tracks “Put a Lid on It” and “Hell.”

They released their debut album, “The Inevitable,” in 1995. Although the album was moderately successful, it included the song “Anything But Love,” which was featured in the film “Flirting with Disaster.” The band was disbanded for a few years before the members came together again and performed in 2007. Phillips and Mathus reunited in 2016 with a new plan to tour to promote the 20th anniversary of their highest-selling album, “Hot.”
