Statik Selektah, born Patrick Baril, is a DJ and hip hop producer from Boston, Massachusetts. He first started as a radio DJ for WPEA 90.5FM in Exeter, New Hampshire in 1996. He didn’t begin as a hip hop producer until the 2000s, producing a few tracks for KRS-One and Nas before working on larger projects with G-Unit. He also distributed many mixtapes from artists such as Nas, John Legend, and Q-Tip. Statik Selectah finally released his debut album Spell My Name Right: The Album, in 2007. The album features dozens of high-profile guest features over his production, which set the format for his solo releases since, all of which have been received generally favorably by critics. Statik Selektah often teams with artists for EP or full-length releases, such as Lord Giveth, Lord Taketh Away, a collaborative EP made with rapper Freddie Gibbs, a standout project in both discographies.
