Stephen King Bio

Stephen King is an American author born in Portland, Maine on September 21, 1947. King is known for writing supernatural fiction, suspense, fantasy, and science fiction. In 1967 King sold his first short story to Startling Mystery Stories titled “The Glass Floor.” After graduating from college he would sell short stories to have an income. In 1973 he published his first novel, Carrie with the publishing house Doubleday. The novel was his fourth, but the first to get published. He has since published the novels The Shining, The Stand, The Dead Zone, Firestarter, Pet Sematary, Insomnia, Bag of Bones, Black House, The Colorado Kid, Cell, Under the Dome, Finders Keepers, The Outsider, and many more. King has published 60 novels, 5 non-fiction books, and has written over 200 short stories, most of which have been compiled into books. His books have sold over 350 million copies and a number of them have been made into shows, feature films, television movies, and comic books. King has been awarded numerous awards, including 15 Bram Stoker Awards, 5 Locus Awards, 6 British Fantasy Awards among others.
