Steve Guttenberg Bio

Steve Guttenberg, born on August 24, 1958 in Brooklyn, New York, is an actor, producer, director, and writer. After studying acting in New York City and in Long Island, he moved to Los Angeles to become an actor. By 1976, he appeared in Something for Joey, a made-for-TV movie. The following year, he starred in the film The Chicken Chronicles. Two years after that, he played Billy in his first TV show, Billy. He went on to appear in a number of films, most notable of which were Boys from Brazil (1978), Diner (1982), Police Academy (1984), Cocoon (1985), and Short Circuit (1986). For his first Broadway play, he starred in Prelude to a Kiss as Peter in 1990. In 1938, he co-produced ABC’s The Day After, one of the most watched TV movies of all time, and in 1988, he produced Gangs, the Emmy-nominated episode of CBS Schoolbreak Special. He also wrote books — a memoir entitled The Guttenberg Bible (2012) and the children’s book The Kids From D.I.S.C.O (2014).
