Steve Vai was born on June 6, 1960, in Carle Place, New York. He started recording with Frank Zappa back in 1980 and he has been working with different artists and bands in the following years.
Vai’s earliest project as a solo artist is Flex-Able which was released in 1984. This was followed by the release of Passion and Warfare in 1990, Sex & Religion, Fire Garden, Flex-Able Leftovers, The Ultra Zone, Real Illusions: Reflections, and The Story of Light. His most recent album is Modern Primitive which was released in 2016.
Vai also won three Grammy awards. He won the Best Rock Instrumental Performance for “Sofa” in 1993 and the same award for “Peaches en Regalia” in 2008. In 2002, his No Substitutions: Live in Osaka was named as Best Pop Instrumental Album.
