Stoffel Vandoorne Bio

Belgian racing driver Stoffel Vandoorne, who now competes in Formula E, was born in Kortrijk, West Flanders, in the Flemish Region of Belgium on March 26, 1992. In 2013, Vandoorne enrolled in McLaren's young driver programme. In 2014, he served as the team's third driver. After Fernando Alonso's injuries from an accident in Australia were exposed, he made his racing debut in the 2016 Bahrain Grand Prix. In 2017 and 2018, he raced with Fernando Alonso at McLaren. In 2018/19, Vandoorne joined Formula E as one of the sport's most promising young drivers after winning the 2010 F4 Eurocup 1.6, 2012 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, and 2015 GP2 Series championships. Because of Vandoorne's outstanding rookie campaign, Mercedes-Benz, which took over the HWA Racelab entry at the conclusion of the 2018–19 season, decided to keep the Belgian racer for the 2019–20 campaign. Vandoorne began the 2020–21 season as a strong favorite to win the World Championship.
