Formed initially as a jam band, the bluegrass influenced String Cheese Incident is made up of Michael Kang on the mandolin/violin, Bill Nershi on guitar, Keith Moseley on bass, Kyle Hollingsworth on piano, and Jason Hann and Michael Travis on percussion. The members got together in 1993 in Boulder, Colorado, and are known for playing a variety of styles, such as jazz, funk, calypso, and bluegrass, among many others. Although they had no serious aspirations of becoming a touring band, they began to take their talent seriously, performing over 100 times on tour and creating Sci Fidelity, their record label.
In 1997, the group released an LP entitled Born on the Wrong Planet, followed by a number of albums throughout the late 1990s and 2000s. In 2007, the band announced that they were going to take a break; they had released 10 albums in a span of 8 years, and decided that it was time to relax. They did, however, come back together to record and release Song in My Head, which debuted in 2014.
