Superchunk is an American indie rock band formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1989. The members of the band are Mac McCaughan on lead vocals and guitar, Jim Wilbur on guitar, Laura Ballance on bass guitar, and Jon Wurster on drums. After forming the band, the members Mac McCaughan and Laura Balance founded the independent record label Merge Records to release the band’s music. The band released their debut single in 1989 titled “Slack Motherfucker” and in 1990 they released their debut studio album self-titled Superchunk. They have since released the albums No Pocky for Kitty, On the Mouth, Foolish, Here’s Where the Strings Come In, Indoor Living, Come Pick Me Up, Here’s to Shutting Up, Majesty Shredding, I Hate Music, and What a Time to Be Alive. They have also released a number of EPs and compilation albums.
