Survivor Bio

Initially comprised of Frankie Sullivan and Jim Peterik, the band Survivor formed in 1977 in Chicago, Illinois. The two met when a mutual friend had them play some songs together, and they took their relationship from there. Shortly after, they were joined by Dave Bickler, Dennis Johnson, and Gary Smith. The band released their debut self-titled album in 1980, then a second album entitled Premonition in 1981. However, it was not until the release of their third album Eye of the Tiger in 1982 that brought them the fame they craved. The single off of the album with the same name was written specifically for the movie Rocky, and therefore enjoyed the top spot on U.S. charts for seven weeks in a row. It was later nominated for a Grammy Award for “Song of the Year”.

After the release of their seventh album entitled Too Hot to Sleep in 1988, the band members decided to pursue solo careers. They did, however, release an album in 2006 entitled Reach, and proved that they could pick up where they left off in their 2014 U.S. tour.
