Pooja Vijay, who is famous by her screen name, Swasika, is an actress, TV presenter and dancer. She was born in Ernakulam, Kerala. After completing her degree in Arts, she pursued her interest in performing arts with dance classes.
In 2009, she bagged her first role in the film, ‘Vaigai,’ based on a real-life story. She acted in two more Tamil films after her debut, including, ‘Goripalyam,’ and ‘Maithanam.’ Both received positive reviews and made her a well-known name in the South Indian film industry. In 2012, she debuted in the Malayalam film industry with ‘Cinema Company’ in a lead role. Her two most noteworthy films in Malayalam are ‘Ittimani: Made in China,’ and ‘Vasanthi.’ Swasika won a Ramu Karyat Award, Kerala State Film Award and Kerala Critics Award for her performance in these films.
In 2015, she made her TV debut with the Malayalam serial, ‘Dhathuputhri.’ She won a Drishya TV Award for Best New Face for this show. It was the serial, ‘Seetha,’ that earned her immense fame, an Adoor Bhasi Television Award, and a Shantidevi Puraskaram in the Best Actress category.
