SWMRS (pronounced “swimmers”, previously under the name “Emily’s Army”) is a pop-punk band from Oakland, California, which makes you wonder why more punk bands don’t come from there. Frontman Cole Becker and drummer Joey Armstrong (son of Billie Joe Armstrong of the band Green day) started out childhood friends inspired to form a rock band by the 2003 film “School of Rock.” Cole’s brother Max played bass. Last they added Travis Neumann on guitar, released a debut EP, eventually graduating to full albums produced by Billie Joe Armstrong.
SWMRS is currently under the Fueled By Ramen label, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records. they’ve released three studio albums as of this writing, the most recent of which, “Drive North,” hit #15 on the Billboard Heatseekers and #50 on the Billboard Indie charts. The group shows promise, especially under the tutelage of Billie Joe Armstrong, the modern punk rock godfather.
