Swoosie Kurtz Bio

Swoosie Kurtz was born on September 6, 1944 in Omaha, Nebraska. She majored in drama at the University of Southern California and made her first debut in the comedy play Ah, Wilderness in 1975. Starring primarily in theater and television, she has won two Tony Awards for “Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play,” the first in Fifth of July (1981) and the second in The House of Blue Leaves (1986).

Kurtz is also known for her eight Primetime Emmy nominations from 1982 all the way until 2006, starring in shows such as Love, Sidney, Sisters, And the Band Played On, ER, and Huff. She would even obtain one Emmy win in 1990 in Carol and Company for “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.” She would later go on to star in films such as Wildcats (1986), Citizen Ruth (1996), and Liar Liar (1997).
