Dong Young-bae (born May 18, 1988) is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and dancer better known by his stage names Taeyang (meaning "sun" in Korean) and SOL (when playing in Japan).
Taeyang began training with YG Entertainment at the age of 12 after participating in Jinusean's music video "A-yo." He made his debut as a member of the South Korean boy band Big Bang six years later, in 2006.
While the quintet's debut was met with tepid reviews, their subsequent albums solidified their status as one of Asia's best-selling digital groups and one of the world's best-selling boy bands.
