Kim Tae-Yeon (popularly known as Taeyeon) is a South Korean singer and actress who was born on March 9th, 1989 in Jeonju, North Jeolla, South Korea. Kim took her singing inspiration from BoA and she was also childhood friends with No-eul of the K-Pop group Rainbow.
Taeyeon won a talent competition in her school in 2004 and was offered a contract by S.M. She joined the all-female pop group Girls’ Generation in 2007. Kim rose to fame as the leader of Girls’ Generation before she launched her solo career. The group’s song Gee that was released in 2009 was a huge hit expanding their fanbase in South Korea, Japan, and the United States. Taeyeon rose to become the leader of the group and was later the focus of the spin-off act TTS that launched in 2012. She released the EP I in 2015 when she launched her solo career and the EP was one of 2015’s top-selling releases. She followed up with My Voice two years later and closed the same year with her holiday album This Christmas-Winter Is Coming.
Her second album Purpose dropped in October 2019 including the hit single Four Seasons. The album peaked at #2 in South Korea and entered the Top Ten on Billboard’s World Albums chart. Taeyeon dubbed the voice of Margo for the Korean versions of both Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2. She is also known for her work on You're All Surrounded (2014), To the Beautiful You (2012), and Make Your Move (2013).
