Taj Gibson was born on June 24, 1985 in Brooklyn, New York. His father played basketball during the Vietnam War on the U.S. Army National Team. Taj played three successful seasons at the University of Southern California. He was signed to the Chicago Bulls after college during the 2009 NBA Draft. In 2009, he won the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year award. In 2010, he played for the rookie team and the team won for the first time since 2002. He was named to play in the 2012 Summer Olympics. He was later traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. In July 2017, Gibson joined the Minnesota Timberwolves and made history becoming the first NBA player to wear the number 67 to honor his high school, P.S. 67 Charles A. Dorsey.
