Tamar Braxton Bio

Singer, songwriter and reality television star Tamar Braxton was born Tamar Estine Braxton on March 17, 1977 in Severn, Maryland. She is the youngest sister of R&B star Toni Braxton. Along with their sisters Traci, Trina and Towanda, Tamar and Toni were signed to Arista records as “The Braxtons” in 1989. They released one single, “Good Life” before Toni left the group in 1991 to pursue a solo career. Tamar and the rest of the Braxton sisters became her back-up singers. In 1996, Tamar, Trina and Towanda released an album on Atlantic Records titled So Many Ways, which included production from Jermaine Dupri and Daryl Simmons. Tamar left the group in 1998 to pursue a solo career and her debut solo album, Tamar, was released on March 21, 2000 on DreamWorks Records, however, when the album failed to generate much interest, DreamWorks dropped her from their roster. Tamar then performed back-up vocals on sister Toni’s next three albums, The Heat (2000), Snowflakes (2001), and More than a Woman (2002) and also performed during her Las Vegas revue, Toni Braxton: Revealed.

In 2011, Tamar, her mother and sisters began starring in the WE TV reality show Braxton Family Values. In September of 2012, it was announced Tamar would be featured in a spin-off series with husband Vincent Herbert. The series, Tamar & Vince, featured the recording of Tamar’s second album, Love and War, which was released on September 3, 2013 and debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200. Braxton’s first Christmas album, Winter Loversland, was released on November 11, 2013. In December of 2013, Tamar Braxton received three Grammy nominations for Love and War.

In February of 2014, Tamar was featured on the remix of Robin Thicke’s single “For the Rest of My Life.” On October 6th, she released her new single, “Let Me Know” featuring rapper Future. Also in October of 2014, the second season of Tamar and Vince began airing on WE TV.
