Tendai Mtawarira, widely known as The Beast, is a retired rugby player born in Harare, Zimbabwe, on August 1, 1985. He has been capped over 100 times by the Springboks at the test level and has played over 150 games for the Sharks in Super Rugby. He began representing the Sharks in the Currie Cup in 2006.
The legendary coach Joey Muwadzuri discovered him at age 15, inviting him to play for the U19 team at the National Schools Festival. Tendai joined the Natal Sharks in Super Rugby in 2008 and debuted for South Africa against Wales in June 2008. He retired as the most capped prop for South Africa.
Tendai is a Rugby World Cup 2019 Champion winner. He won the Zim Achievers Award for Sports Personality of the Year in 2014 and 2015. He made the Forbes Africa 100 Most Influential Africans in 2021. Tendai founded The Beast Foundation in 2020. He is a WildAid and UNICEF ambassador.
