Tesla is a rock band from the capitol city of California, who originally went by the name Earthshaker and City Kidd. They are indeed named after the famous electrical inventor, engineer, and wizard Nikola Tesla. Their current line-up is Jeff Keith (lead vocals), original members Brian Wheat (bass, backing vocals, keyboards, piano) and Frank Hannon (guitar, backing vocals, keyboards, piano, organ, theremin, bass, mandolin, harmonica), Dave Rude (guitar, backing vocals, bass), and Troy Luccketta (drums, percussion).
Tesla’s most famous hit is their cover of Five Man Electrical Band’s “Signs,” which they released in 1990 and re-released in 1991, charting both times. They were bolstered by a video which saw daily play on MTV. However, there’s much more to Tesla, having been a hair / glam metal band that has morphed into a progressive / alternative band now. Their latest studio album is “Simplicity” (2014), which charted #24 on Billboard’s Album 200.
