The Black Angels Bio

The Black Angels is a psychedelic rock band formed in 2004 in Austin, Texas by vocalist Alex Maas, organist Jennifer Raines, drummer Stephanie Bailey, guitarist Christian Bland, and bassist Nathan Ryan. In 2006 they toured the United States, made an appearance at the SXSW festival, and released their first LP “Passover”. In the following years, they toured as the backing band of Roky Erickson, the solo project of the former leader of psychedelic rock legends The 13th Floor Elevators, and made a collaboration with hip hop artist UNKLE. The band’s third full-length album “Phosphene Dream” (2010) reached Billboard’s Top 50 chart. After two more studio albums and making a presence in the U.S. and U.K.’s psychedelic scene, the band underwent some changes in their original lineup, adding multi-instrumentalists Jake Garcia and Kyle Hunt in place of Ryan and Raines.
