The Blues Brothers is an American blues and soul band that was created in 1978 in Calumet City, Illinois, as part of a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live by comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. The band had an incredible number of members and collaborators among which stand out "Joliet" Jake E. Blues as the lead vocalist, Steve "The Colonel" Cropper as the lead and rhythm guitarist, Donald "Duck" Dunn as the bassist, and Murphy Dunne as the keyboardist. Their first album titled Briefcase Full of Blues was released in 1978. That same year the band opened for the Grateful Dead at the closing of San Francisco's Winterland Arena. They rose to prominence after spawning a Hollywood comedy film, The Blues Brothers, in 1980. Altogether, the band has released two studio albums, five live albums, and four soundtrack albums.
