The Brand New Heavies are a music band from Ealing, west London, formed in the year 1985. They are famous for their popular singles in the early 1990s featuring N'Dea Davenport as lead vocalist, and are centered around songwriters/multi-instrumentalists Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Levy, the primary members of the group from its creation.
The Brand New Heavies originated in the 1980s as Brothers International, an instrumental acid jazz group.
They established a cult following in the London club scene as The Brand New Heavies and quickly signed to Cooltempo when acid jazz replaced rare groove in clubs. In 1990, the band made their debut for Eddie Piller's Acid Jazz label, with Jay Ella Ruth as lead singer.
