The Decemberists Bio

The Decemberists are a folk-rock band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2000, by vocalist Colin Meloy, multi-instrumentalist Chris Funk, cello player Nate Query, bassist Jesse Emerson keyboardist, and accordionist Jenny Conlee, and drummer John Moen. They released their debut album Castaways and Cutouts in 2002 with the label Kill Rock Stars. After two more carefully crafted releases, “The Crane Wife” went out in 2006 and achieved the 35th spot on Billboard’s 200. After making a guest appearance in late-night comedy show The Colbert Report, the group went on to compose the rock opera “The Hazards of Love” in 2009. The band saw another Billboard hit with 2011’s full-length “The King Is Dead” and went on hiatus for three years. The Decemberists returned in 2014 with a tour through Europe and the United States and two more studio albums, with 2018’s “I’ll Be Your Girl” reaching a spot again in Billboard’s 200.
