The Divine Comedy is the band for a group started by Neil Hannon, an Irish pop singer and songwriter. He built a strong following in the 90s and received much critical acclaim until he later became a mainstream artist following the success of his third album “Casanova”. He is known for his solo work and for writing theme songs for shows like the IT Crowd. The band originally included John McCullagh on bass and Kevin Traynor on drums. Together, they released an EP, Fanfare for the Comic Muse in 1990. They were later joined by John Allen as lead vocalist, and released the EP “Timewatch”. The following year, they moved to London, where they began regularly opening for and collaborating with Suede. They then released a Europop EP before breaking up the band. Hannon then went on to work with several artists, and collaborate. In 2014, Hannon was the only member of the band left. In September 2016 he was number three in Ireland charts.
