The Duke Spirit Bio

The Duke Spirit are a rock band hailing from London, England. The group was formed in 2003 and consists of the following member: Liela Moss, Luke Ford, Toby Butler, Oliver Betts, and Rich Fownes. Past members of the band include the likes of Dan Higgins and Marc Sallis. Liela Moss and Luke Ford met in college and originally performed as a group called Solomon. Once they were joined by Toby Butler they changed the group’s name to The Duke Spirit.

In 2003 they released their first two singles called “Solomon” and “Darling You’re Mean.” In the same year The Duke Spirit released their debut EP entitled Darling You’re Mean on the label City Rockers. Towards the end of the year they released another EP called Roll, Spirit, Roll. In 2004-2005 The Duke Spirit signed with Loog/Polydor Records and released their debut album entitled Cuts Across the Land. The album peaked at number 40 on the UK Album charts.

In 2008 the band returned to recording after touring and released a new album called Neptune.It was released on the You Are Here label. The album peaked at number 5 on the UK Indie Albums chart. The band’s third album, Bruiser, was released in 2011. The Duke Spirit then went on tour to support acts such as Queens of the Stone Age, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, R.E.M. and Jane’s Addiction.
