The Fiery Furnaces is a rock band based in Brooklyn, New York. Initially from Oak Park, Illinois, the band included siblings Matthew Friedberger and Eleanor Friedberger. When playing live on tour, they are joined by Bob D'Amico, Jason Loewenstein, and Michael Goodman. In 2002, they signed with the music label Rough Trade Records and released their debut album in the same year.
The band released Gallowsbird's Bark in 2003, which was praised for its ingenious wordplay and originality. In 2004, they released Blueberry Boat, a track that ran for six minutes or longer. Some were critical of the complexity of the album, while others found it a bit overwhelming. The band released an EP in 2005, followed by two more albums Rehearsing My Choir in 2005 and Bitter Tea in 2006. The Fiery Furnaces released their fifth full-length album titled Window City in October 2007.
