The Highwomen, a country music band consisting of an all-female ensemble was formed to pave the way for women who are grossly under-represented in this genre. It is considered a supergroup by the industry. All four members, Amanda Shires, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Natalie Hemby joined the band at the peak of their respective careers. Amanda Shires came up with the idea and recruited Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Natalie Hemby. The Highwomen was formed in 2019 and named after the group of legendary male musicians who came together to form The Highwaymen back in 1980. They released their first self-titled album in 2019 with Elektra Records. Their success has seen them perform around the country and garner well-earned attention.
