Marcus King of the Marcus King Band was born on March 11, 1996 in Greenville, South Carolina. King grew up around blues and music as his father, Marvin King, was a well-known bluesman. Marcus played alongside his father in shows often. He started his own group when he was barely twenty, and the unique style of this group is described as “soul-influenced psychedelic southern rock.” The band includes several members other than Marcus, including Jack Ryan who plays the drums and percussion; Stephen Campbell on the bass; Dean Mitchell, who plays the saxophone; and Justin Johnson who plays the trumpet and trombone, and often contributes backup vocals.
Their first album came out in 2015 and its entitled “Soul Insight.” King says he writes his songs based on experiences he has lived and, remarkably, though he’s so young, many people seem to be able to relate. In 2016, the band partnered with Fantasy Records and released a second album under the Fantasy label.
