Pixies Bio
The Pixies, officially known as Pixies, are a very influential alternative rock band formed in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts by college friends Joey Santiago and Charles Thompson (later known as Black Francis), bassist Kim Deal and drummer David Lovering. The band garnered its celebrity status in Europe and the U.K., and initially only had moderate success in the U.S. They first gained some notoriety touring with band Throwing Muses and managed to issue their first EP with a selection of songs from their demo under the name “Come on Pilgrim” (1987). Debut LP “Surfer Rosa” went out in 1988, earned the second spot on the Indie Chart, and was certified gold in 2005. The second full-length album “Doolittle” was issued in 1989 and saw its singles “Here Comes Your Man” and “Monkey Gone to Heaven” became Top Ten hits. After one more album and members starting other musical projects, the band toured the world with U2. The Pixies disbanded in 1993 but reunited a decade later, making numerous appearances at high-profile festivals like Coachella and recording three more studio albums.
