The Pretenders Bio

The Pretenders is an English–American rock band formed in Hereford, England, in March 1978. Initiated by Chrissie Hynde, the original band consisted of James Honeyman-Scott, Pete Farndon, and Martin Chambers. Over the years, the band experienced numerous personnel changes. The band's self-titled debut album was released in January 1980, followed by the second album, Pretenders II, in August 1981.

Their third album, Learning to Crawl, came out in January 1984, with Robbie McIntosh and Malcolm Foster joining Hynde and Chambers. The albums Get Close followed in 1986, Packed in 1990, Last of the Independents in 1994, Viva el Amor in 1999, Loose Screw in 2002, Break Up the Concrete in 2008. The Pretenders released their 10th studio album, Alone, on October 21, 2016, followed by the 11th album Hate for Sale on July 17, 2020. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2005.
