The Shins Bio

The Shins are an American alternative rock and indie rock band. They were formed in 1996 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The band consists of James Mercer who provides the vocals, plays the guitar, and is the songwriter, Joe Plummer, who is the drummer, Jessica Dobson who plays the guitar, Yuuki Matthews who plays the bass, and Richard Swift who provides the keyboards. They released 2 singles on Omnibus Records “Nature Bears a Vacuum” in 1999 and the hit single “When I Goose-Step” in 2000. They have toured alongside Modest Mouse. Their first album was released in 2001 under the title “Oh, Inverted World”, and their second album titled “Chutes Too Narrow” was released in 2003. Both of their albums appeared on the Top 100 Best Albums list of 2000-2004. Their third studio album titled “Wincing the Night Away” was released in 2007. This last album was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Alternative Music Album.
