Country pop duo The Shires consists of singer-songwriters Ben Earle (vocals and guitar) and Crissie Rhodes (lead vocals). They are from Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, England. Rhodes got her start performing at weddings and clubs. Earle was a solo artist and had opened for KT Tunstall before he was dropped from his record label. They met through Facebook after Earle desperately posted looking for a partner in order to form a country duo.
They were signed by Decca Records in the UK, which led to a contract with Universal Music Group Nashville. They are the first country artists from England to sign with a major Nashville record label. Their first single, “Nashville Grey Skies,” was released in April 2014. March 2015 marked the release of their debut studio album entitled “Brave.” It reached number ten on the UK Albums chart; the only British country band to achieve that milestone. They were invited to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee in June 2015.
